Match Reports from the 1st Team Games against Harrogate and Leeds

Ben Rhydding Men 1 - Harrogate 3

Ben Rhydding Men’s 1st XI were unable to turn home advantage into points as Harrogate claimed a 3–1 victory in the Yorkshire & North East Men’s Premier Division on Saturday afternoon.

Missing a couple of key players Ben Rhydding still started strongly and had several chances to get on the score sheet in the first quarter. After the first break Harrogate had regrouped and quickly turned a chance into a goal. With the lead Harrogate kept pushing and scored a second before Max Helme took the ball into the Harrogate D and scored past the flailing Harrogate keeper on the stroke of half time.

At this point it seemed that Ben Rhydding were on the comeback but despite being the dominant team through the second half they were unable to convert a number of chances and short corners. They were dealt another blow in the third quarter as Harrogate restored their two goal lead and, with the assistance of a great performance in goal, Harrogate took the three points in this local derby.

On Saturday the Men will be away at Stockton.

Leeds 4 - Ben Rhydding Women 1

After a great win against Sutton Coldfield the previous week, Ben Rhydding women came up against a strong Leeds side on Saturday evening.

Leeds scored early in the first half and took this one goal lead into the second half. Sophie Stewart equalised for Ben Rhydding early in the second half but Leeds immediately struck back and put three more goals on the board before the end of the third quarter. Rhydding attempted to fight back but were handicapped by yellow card suspensions in the final quarter and were unable to get back into the game.

On Saturday the Women entertain Loughborough Students - starting at 12.00
